Carol Simmons’ “Fantasy Flowers and Totems” 3 day workshop

Kathy, our Program Chair, reported that the Carol Simmons class was a big success (see below!). 16 guild members took the class and enjoyed the “prix-fixe” $20 dinner on Saturday at Ki’s Restaurant in Cardiff by the Sea.  Most of the students created Fantasy Flowers and one student created Totems.
Images from class: Chris Whipple’s 3 Totems, Meisha Barbee’s 6 exotic flowers, Denise Pinnell’s floral bouquet and Kathy Hepburn’s two fancy flowers.

The class offered an opportunity to learn from an outstanding colorist and designer.

Working from pre-prepared Skinner blends and simple canes, they assembled 3-dimensional fantasy flowers or colorful totems. And everyone taking this course walked out with big smiles on their faces. It was just FUN!

The students combined thinly sliced flower components or decorative items for totems on metal forms and baked them.

Then they assembled the colorful components on wires (for flowers) or stacked them on rods (totems).

Carol also demonstrated her method for using magnets for flower assembly so the students can easily switch and change them as the mood strikes.
